Club Description:  The Close-Up Club is a civics and politically related school club that meets throughout the school year. The highlight of the club’s activities is visiting Washington, D.C with a non- profit, non- partisan foundation, the largest civic education organization since 1971.All students are invited to participate in the club and to attend the field trip to WASHINTON, D.C.  Close Up Washington, D.C. is much more than a school board pre-approved field trip, it’s an exciting, week long study, visit to the nation’s capital where you will have the opportunity to experience your government and the political process firsthand. Participants get an inside look at the nation’s capital with the people and places that make this make this city unique. Along with students from across the country and maybe even from around the world, will embark on a learning adventure like no other – one filled with active participation, peer interaction and most important overall learning and fun. As of 9-1-21, the school board and the district have not approved out of state field trips so subject to change, John A,. Ferguson will not be attending during the 2021-2022 school year. The Close-Up Club is designed to help you understand how you can influence your community, your state, and your nation. Plus, you can even get a head start on college by earning credit from either the University of Virginia or Indiana University.  
  
Requirements:  Be a Ferguson student, interested in politics, community service and leadership. A limited amount of financial aid can be available based on need and availability of funds through Close Up (very limited and sometimes not available through Close Up at all). In a separate program, New Americans living in the United States for three years or less can have much of the cost of the trip paid for by a Miami Dade county grant based on availability and participation throughout the school year in club meetings and activities. Will not be participating in the New Americans program during the 2021-2022 school year because of the pandemic/school board/district decision/ limited availability of Close Up raised funds and or the lack of grants from the State of Florida.
